Protecting what we Love: Workshop for Teachers and Workshop Leaders
Presenter: Rev Dr Mishka Lysack

Do you lead workshops or discussion groups in your community on faith and environment, or would you like to? Are you interested in sharpening your skills, and learning how to lead effective workshops? If your answer is "yes", then this workshop is for you. Rev. Dr. Mishka Lysack is known for his engaging workshops and inspiring presentations. His workshop "Protecting what we Love" centering on fostering empowerment and hope in a time of environmental crisis at the last GAN/GSS day conference in March received many positive and enthusiastic reviews. "Mishka's workshop was a powerful experience, a tipping point for my spiritual life in protecting the environment," one person remarked.

In a new ground-breaking workshop, Mishka will share his experiences and insights about how to be an effective teacher and workshop leader. Using his "Protecting what we Love" workshop as a case study, Mishka will introduce us to important tools for teaching, and the helpful ideas behind these tools. And he will explore how to foster deep listening and inner reflection, using our stories as pathways into hope, faith, and empowerment to assist us in our work to protect the earth.

Mishka is an assistant professor in the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Calgary and an Anglican minister. In April 2011, he was recently recognized at the university for his exceptional teaching skills by being awarded the "Excellence in Teaching Award", and he was also a runner-up for the university award for innovations in sustainability in curriculum this year. He has a PhD from McGill in Education and Social work, specializing in adult learning and reflection processes.
